America has always been a nation immigrants. Different national needs and the opening of the west influenced federal policy concerning who was and was not welcome. Eventually the government created a national immigration policy For the United States and the need for special officers for implementing this national immigration policy. 'Immigrant Inspectors', were stationed at major U.S. ports of entry collecting manifests of arriving passengers. Its largest station was located on Ellis Island in New York harbor.

All of us unless we are from the Native American community, can all find in our own family history some connection to a path that led to the American dream. It might be either through some form of spouse immigration or a work visa.
